Drayage

Drayage

Drayage is a form of short-haul transport of whole containers of goods via ground freight over a short distance, often as part of a longer overall move, usually within a single urban area. Unlike long-haul shipping, it’s typically completed within a single shift. Drayage shipping may include moving cargo from a port to a rail yard, from a rail yard to a trucking hub or from a port to a warehouse or other shipping location. Despite its short distance, drayage provides a necessary link in multimodal transport. Drayage may incur a drayage base fee and the term drayage is also used for the fee paid for such services.
