Intensive Exam

An intensive exam is the most thorough examination conducted by Customs and Border Protection (CBP). When a container is selected for intensive examination, it is transported to a Centralized Examination Station (CES) where the container is unloaded for examination by a CBP officer. The CES, a CBP-designated facility, facilitates the physical examination of imported or exported cargo. Once the examination is complete, the CES reloads the cargo back into the container. The importer is responsible for the costs associated with transporting the container to the CES and storing it during examination, including transportation charges and any applicable storage fees.
