ISPS Code ( International Ship and Port Facility Security Code )

The ISPS Code establishes a framework for cooperation between ships and port facilities to detect and prevent acts that threaten maritime security. ISPS code enables the international community to detect and deter security threats by defining roles and responsibilities, facilitating the exchange of security information and implementing effective security measures. The Code requires ship and port facility personnel to gather and assess information, maintain communication protocols, control access and prevent the introduction of unauthorised weapons. It also emphasises the need for alarm systems, ship and port security plans and regular training and drills. It is important to note that the Code does not cover the actual response to security incidents or the subsequent clean-up.
