Stern

“Stern” refers to the rear part of a ship or vessel. Technically, it is defined as the area that is built up over the sternpost and extends upwards from the counter to the taffrail. The stern is an essential component of a ship’s design, providing stability, structural support, and housing various equipment and machinery. It is the opposite end of the vessel from the bow or the front. The stern area often includes features such as the rudder, propeller, sternpost, and sometimes a deck or platform. The stern’s design and configuration can vary depending on the type of ship, its purpose, and the era in which it was built.
