In April, our Airfreight Healthcare Product Manager for North America, Melissa Cooper, received an urgent call from our Poland office. They were seeking assistance in getting a shipment of relief items into Ukraine. Upon further investigation, Cooper discovered that the delivery contained thyroid medication - a treatment she herself relied on.
This personal connection to the shipment, combined with Cooper's Ukrainian heritage, ignited a passion to ensure this vital medication reached those in need. It was a stark reminder that behind every shipment, there are real people with real needs - a principle that FreightAmigo has always held at its core.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Cooper immediately set our Digital Logistics Platform into motion. Over the next two weeks, she worked tirelessly to gather necessary information, set up accounts, obtain export licenses, and take all the steps required to ensure a smooth delivery of the shipment.
"I coordinated all of the steps from the shipper's door to departure to Poland," Cooper explained. "We planned how we could move this from the US to KTW (Katowice Airport) in Poland and even engaged our teams in Poland and Ukraine for support."

Neither side was eager to make the delivery, and as Cooper aptly put it, "You can't just go to the border and toss a box across the line."

The freight originated in Kentucky, with our Philadelphia office handling the commercial documentation and airway bill, and then executing the shipment. "They followed up all the way until handover into Ukraine," Cooper noted. "We ended up successfully pulling it off."
The shipment was flown into Poland on Lufthansa, where FreightAmigo took charge of the final, crucial leg into Ukraine. Our team in Ukraine was on standby with a truck for immediate transfer from Lufthansa over the Ukrainian border. They delivered the shipment the very next day in Ukraine.
Scott Shepherd, FreightAmigo's International Air Manager in Philadelphia, personally handled the shipment. He coordinated the pickup in the US, booked with the airline, and issued the air waybill. The first shipment arrived in Ukraine in early May, with a second shipment following two weeks later.
