Sea capacity continues to grow in 2022 , container port capacity are struggling to catch up with such rising demand.  This results in a historical low in sea schedule reliability to 30.9% in January.

Maritime research and analytics provider Sea-Intelligence has announced the latest schedule reliability figures recently.  It was 30.9% in January 2022, the lowest ever global schedule reliability since Sea-Intelligence started the measurement in 2011.  While the average delay for late vessel arrivals decreased to 7.38 days, the sixth consecutive month with the figure above 7 days.

Continuous capacity flow towards major ports is one of the reasons for the delay.  Taking Asia – North America East Coast as an example, the average weekly capacity has reached a new peak of 363,900 TEU in 2022.  The figure was 60,000 TEU higher than last year.  Ports will begin to feel the stress of additional cargo with the increasing sea capacity soon.
