The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has assigned FreightAmigo to deliver their self-design solar energy system all the way from Hong Kong to 150 Rwandan families.

Government in Rwanda has been actively investing on energy projects in recent years to improve local electricity supply.  The share of Rwanda’s households connected to electricity increased from less than 30% in 2016 to around 70% in 2021, and the Rwandan government is expecting full access to electricity in 2024.  The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is therefore offering a helping hand with their self-design solar energy system.

However due to pandemic restrictions, the PolyU team could not visit Rwanda to complete the installation work.  Besides, long-haul journey between Hong Kong and Rwanda involves hundreds of documentation handlings and custom clearance procedures.  Trading and logistics expert is necessary in handling such complex shipment.  Therefore, PolyU has invited FreightAmigo to arrange the solar panels shipment to Rwanda so the team can complete the solar energy system installation remotely with the help from local volunteers.

Fragile Goods Delivery

Solar panels are large and fragile, which requires special handling during transportation.  FreightAmigo is experienced in handling bulky and valuable items such as automobile and piano, so the team is well-trained in handling fragile consignments.  Before departure, FreightAmigo team members conducted one final checking with the parcels to ensure solar panels were safe and protected with bubble wraps, corrugated box and pallet liners.

Long-Haul Shipment Journey

There is no direct flight between Hong Kong and Rwanda, together with the ongoing global supply chain disruptions, freight options are very limited.  FreightAmigo is a 1-stop supply chain finance e-marketplace, which offers diverse, safe and sound freight options with real-time tracking.  In split seconds, our AI routing algorithm figured out a safe and efficient door-to-door route for the solar panels’ delivery.  In two weeks, PolyUs’ solar panels arrived to their final destination.

Cargo insurance is essential when transporting valuable goods such as solar panels.  FreightAmigo arranged cargo insurance for this delivery as well as custom clearance procedures, shipping documents to ensure a smooth journey all the way to Rwanda.

Amid global supply chain disruptions, cancellation of flights, FreightAmigo managed to deliver solar panels to Rwanda.  PolyU team could therefore install solar energy system as planned.  FreightAmigo is honored to participate in this meaningful project with PolyU to light up the African landscape.
