The peak season for online shopping and courier towards the end of the year comes. In the coming months, various shopping festivals like Double 11, Double 12, and Black Friday will spark a shopping boom in Western countries. OnTrac and DHL eCommerce Solutions have announced home delivery surcharges for the 2022 peak season. To deal with the anticipated increase in peak season business pressure, international courier companies including FedEx, United Parcel Service (UPS), US Postal Service (USPS), and Amazon recently announced that they will impose peak season surcharges or further increase shipping prices.
DHL eCommerce Solutions planned the peak season surcharge policy will go into effect from October 2 of this year to January 21 of 2023. They are imposing fees as high as $3.20 per package for its SmartMail products, depending on shipping speed and distance. SmartMail relies on the Postal Service for final-mile delivery. DHL is also introducing peak surcharges on SmartMail Return products.
Meanwhile, UPS announced a peak season surcharge plan for 2022 that is similar to OnTrac. It is anticipated to have an impact on customers that requires home delivery during peak seasons. Amazon also stated that it will for the first-time charge surcharge for delivery services provided by third-party sellers during this year’s peak season.
Since shippers are shipping ahead of schedule and this year’s e-commerce growth is slower than in 2020 and 2021, experts predict that this year’s peak season will go more smoothly than usual.
