Day care centre workers in England should conduct regular testing with rapid lateral flow testing on the days that they are working; Czech Republic imposes mandatory comprehensive testing scheme of employees, workers should carry out the test twice a week; Singapore implements Fast and Easy Rostered Routine Testing at certain sectors.  Countries worldwide are enforcing different anti-epidemic regulations, leading to an increase demand in self-test kits.  FreightAmigo arranged a charter carrier for our German client recently and delivered 3 million self-test kit to Berlin in the midst of an Omicron wave.

Since pandemic shows no sign of easing, Germany approves covid home tests as a strategy to emerge the country from a lockdown.  The government is expecting such measure can make a return to normality more durable.  A German firm therefore has decided to purchase covid self-test kits to protect their employees.  Although the supply is very limited, the firm managed to place order with a Chinese supplier in Zhengzhou.  However, there was another challenge on the way, air cargo shortages.

FreightAmigo was appointed by the firm to handle medical logistics arrangement.  From quote, search, book, custom clearance, we spent about a week, delivering the self-test kits from Zhengzhou to Berlin, via a charter carrier.  This is likely to boost the test capacity and test numbers, help limiting the spread of the virus.

Challenges in Air Traffic

Border restrictions caused severe disruption in air traffic.  The client was expecting door-to-door delivery between Zhengzhou and Frankfurt for their self-test kits.  However, those two air hubs were undergoing partial or even full-scale lockdown, flights were limited.  When FreightAmigo was calculating the freight route with our AI routing technology, the live air traffic operation in the hubs was taken into consideration as well.  In the end, we recommended another route for our client, Zhengzhou to Berlin, since air services in Berlin was not affected by lockdown measures.

Although changing destination from Frankfurt to Berlin lengthened the time for last mile delivery, this could minimize delay in delivery due to potential flight disruption in Frankfurt, ensuring on-time delivery of self-test kits.

There were 3 million self-test kits, over 8000 carton boxes in this order.  Due to the large quantity, FreightAmigo arranged a charter carrier specially for this medical logistics arrangement with higher flexibility.  Besides, shipping document, custom clearance, trade finance services were all under FreightAmigo’s control, our client had nothing to worry about.

In one week, 3 million covid self-test kits arrived at our German client’s doorstep.  Although lock down measures in Germany are not lifted at the moment, our client was pleased by FreightAmigo’s safe and sound medical logistics arrangement amidst pandemic.
