How COVID-19 impact the world?
As on 3 Apr 2020, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases have risen to 9,81,428 with 50,230 deaths so far. Countries are taking unprecedented measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus such as the closing of the border & new customs implementation. It greatly affects the logistics operation worldwide.
Let’s have a look at India’s latest situation as an example
The Federal government has removed the ban on movement of goods (all kinds of goods, essential and non-essential) however the actual movement of non-essential goods has not yet begun as the law enforcement agencies are under India state government’s authority and they have not yet implemented the central government orders at the ground level, possibly they are making a plan to ensure that movement all goods vehicles on the road should not go against “social distancing” which has been the primary objective of the “Lock down“.
Due to the “Lock Down”, most of the drivers have migrated back to their hometowns from the cities, so even If the state police permit movement of goods on the road, India may not have enough drivers. This situation is likely to continue till the 15 April 2020., i.e. till the official date of “Lock Down”.
Airlines are now offering passenger aircraft for cargo uplifts besides running freighter operations, but the load factor is below par, and rates are exorbitantly high.
As of today, the airport cargo terminals, ocean ports and CFSs are functioning with very limited staff. The customs clearance activity also happening but only restricted to pharmaceutical and healthcare products. However, there is a problem with the cargo reaching the CFSs/ports or being evacuated due to above-narrated manpower/ban issues.
Similar situations happen not only in India but also in regions like Europe, America, China… Arranging shipment seems to be much difficult than ever due to rising rates, shortage of freight spaces and changeable measures…
