The first train of mainland’s supply of goods to Hong Kong by rail freight was launched this morning at the national logistics hub in Pinghu, Shenzhan.

The train arrived at Lo Wu marshalling yard by noon, carrying 5 tons of anti-epidemic supplies, including masks and rapid test-kits.  Train schedule will increase from one shift a day at the initial stage of opening, up to 8 times a day in long run.  Each 45 minutes freight journey is expecting to bring 8 to 9 containers of medical and civil supplies to Hong Kong.

Apart from rail transport, the government is planning to use the air cargo facilities of Hong Kong International Airport, the Kwai Chung Container Terminals and the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal as temporary cargo transfer yards in this week.  All measures are taken to ensure a stable goods supply to Hong Kong and optimize the operation of cross-boundary transportation of supplies.
