Analysts at Clarksons Shipping are positive about container shipping’s current prospects. Recently, the worldwide container shipping trade has been impacted by the occurrences in major international ports, such as South Korean trucker’ strike, recurring epidemics in China, inflation, and so on. They believe that the short-term market perspective remains hopeful, despite recent downward pressure. It is supported by stable demand and historically high container freight rates.

Container shipping’s overall performance remained consistent in May, according to the analysts, with container freight rates and ship rents staying at exceptional highs. In May, the ship rent index was 419 points, down slightly by 3% from April of this year. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) was 4163 points on May 20, down by 19% from January but still at a historical high.

According to several maritime industries, the world’s largest shipping business, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), is clearly optimistic about the container shipping market and will continue to purchase ships. Container ships from South Korea and China were recently purchased by MSC. Despite there being a drop in container throughput in the first half of 2022, the CEO of Maersk, the world’s second-largest container shipping firm, forecasted that this year’s profit will achieve a new high due to historically high freight rates.
