Freight Forwarder (FF)

A freight forwarder, also known as a carrier, is an individual or company that arranges and manages the transportation of shipments on behalf of a shipper. They work with carriers who are responsible for the physical movement of goods, using various modes of transport such as ships, planes, trucks and railways, often combining multiple modes for a single shipment. While a freight forwarder doesn’t physically move the goods, they play a crucial role as an agent within the logistics network. Their responsibilities include consolidating freight, negotiating rates, tracking shipments, handling customs and other necessary documentation, and performing other logistical tasks. The International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) describes a freight forwarder as the “architect of transport”.
