Bonded Warehouse

A bonded warehouse is a specialised storage facility that allows companies in various industries to store goods internationally until all necessary paperwork is completed and duties are paid. It acts as a duty-free zone where imported dutiable goods can be stored, handled or manufactured without immediate payment of duty. These warehouses are either privately or government owned and are often located overseas. They are often used to store restricted goods such as tobacco, alcohol, antiques and works of art before they are processed and delivered to their final destination. Bonded warehouses also provide services for specialised storage needs such as freezing or bulk liquid storage. Within the bonded warehouse, goods can be manipulated by the warehouse owner or placed under customs control. If the goods are removed for international shipment and consumption during the storage period, companies may be exempt from paying duties. Alternatively, goods held in a bonded warehouse may be removed after payment of duties to either the government or a private entity.
