Railhead

A railhead refers to the upper section of a rail that serves as a support and guide for the wheels of railroad cars. It is an essential component of railway infrastructure that ensures smooth movement and stability of the rolling stock. Additionally, a railhead can also refer to a railroad depot where supplies are unloaded and then distributed or forwarded using trucks or other transportation modes. It serves as a hub for transferring goods between rail and other means of transportation. Railheads can also include designated locations within a railroad terminal where containers are loaded and unloaded, facilitating efficient intermodal transportation.
