CAIN (Customs Assigned Importer Number)

A Customs Assigned Importer Number (CAIN) is a unique identification number issued by customs authorities to identify and track importers involved in international trade. It is used to facilitate customs clearance and compliance with import regulations. Importers must provide their CAIN when submitting import declarations, customs documentation or applications for import permits or licences. The CAIN enables Customs to maintain records of importers, monitor import activities and ensure that importers comply with their legal obligations. The Custom Assigned Importer Number  format consists of fifteen digits, nine of which are used to identify the company. The remaining six characters consist of two letters and four numbers that define the specific programme and account within the CAIN system.
