Harbour Maintenance Fee (HMF)

Harbour Maintenance Fee (HMF)

The Harbour Maintenance Fee (HMF) is a fee imposed by US Customs on products imported by sea through US ports. The fee is calculated at 0.125% of the declared value of the shipment on the commercial invoice, with no minimum or maximum. It is important to note that if a shipment is routed through Canada into the U.S. after being transported by ocean to a Canadian port, it is not subject to the HMF. The Harbour Maintenance Fee is levied on both dutiable and duty-free products and appears as a customs charge on the invoice. Although the HMF is not included in the initial quote as the total value of the shipment is not known at this stage, an estimate can be made using the calculation provided.
