System for Maritime Data and Governance

“SMDG” stands for the “System for Maritime Data and Governance.” It is a user group dedicated to the shipping lines and container terminals within the maritime industry. SMDG plays a crucial role in developing and promoting electronic data interchange (EDI) messages based on the UN/EDIFACT (United Nations Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce, and Transport) standards. These EDI messages enable efficient and standardized electronic communication and data exchange between various stakeholders in the maritime supply chain. SMDG serves as an official Pan-European User Group recognized by the UN/EDIFACT Board, demonstrating its authority and influence in shaping industry standards and facilitating seamless data exchange among shipping lines, container terminals, and other participants in the maritime sector.
