Code 128

Code 128 is a highly versatile and efficient barcode symbology that is capable of encoding all 128 characters of the ASCII character set. This feature-rich barcode system has three subsets—Code 128A, Code 128B, and Code 128C—each designed to optimize the encoding of specific types of data, making it suitable for a wide range of industry applications.

Code 128A: This subset is tailored for encoding standard uppercase alpha-numeric keyboard characters along with special control characters. It’s particularly useful in environments where control characters are necessary for data formatting and command execution within the barcode itself, such as serialized shipping containers or inventory management systems.

Code 128B: Extending the utility of Code 128A, this subset includes both upper and lower case alphabetic characters along with numbers and common punctuation. This makes Code 128B ideal for applications requiring the encoding of textual data, including names, addresses, and other alphanumeric information in both capital and small letters.

Code 128C: Optimized for high-density numeric data encoding, Code 128C compresses two numeric digits into each character of barcode space, allowing for more efficient encoding of long sequences of numbers. This subset is extremely beneficial for applications such as order numbers, time tracking, and other numerical data-intensive fields.
