Shippers Export Declaration (SED), now also known as Electronic Export Information (EEI), is an official document that must be submitted when exporting from the United States. When exporting goods worth more than $2,500, or when special permission is required, the exporter or his or her authorized agent must submit this declaration through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Automated Export System (AES).

U.S. Schedule B Number: A 10-digit code used to classify goods for export.

 

The process of submitting an export declaration

The submission process of export declaration includes the following steps:

Determine whether submission is required: Based on the value and type of goods, determine whether SED/EEI needs to be submitted.
Collect necessary information: Collect all necessary information including exporter, consignee, description of goods, etc.
Submit via AES: Submit all export data electronically using the AES system.
Save Confirmation: Save the ITN (Internal Transaction Number) generated by AES as proof of successful submission.
