Seawaybill

A “seawaybill” is a type of bill of lading commonly used for port-to-port or combined transport shipments. It is similar to a negotiable bill of lading in terms of providing evidence of the contract of carriage, but it differs in that it is not a document of title. Unlike traditional bills of lading, a seawaybill does not require the issuance of physical or original copies, as it operates as a non-negotiable document. In jurisdictions such as the USA, a seawaybill is considered equivalent to a consigned bill of lading. It serves as a transportation document that outlines the terms and conditions of the shipment, facilitating the smooth movement of goods while eliminating the need for physical document transfer.
