Weight Charge

Weight Charge is a more common term and refers to the fees associated with transporting goods based on their weight. Understanding this concept is important for cost management in logistics:

Freight Calculation: For many transportation services, especially air freight, shipping costs are calculated either by the actual weight or the volumetric weight of the cargo, whichever is greater. This method ensures that a carrier is compensated adequately for the space that lightweight, bulky items take up or the weight of heavy items.
Billing Adjustments: Weight charges can also include adjustments based on fuel costs (fuel surcharges), especially when the price of fuel is volatile. These adjustments are often directly tied to the weight of the shipments because heavier shipments consume more fuel.
Rate Scales: Different weight brackets may have different per-unit costs. For example, shipping 100 kg might not cost the same per kg as shipping 1000 kg due to economies of scale.
