Slot charter

“Slot charter” refers to a practice in the shipping industry where a carrier charters or acquires slots or spaces on vessels operated by other carriers. In this arrangement, the carrier does not own or operate the vessel itself but instead secures a designated amount of space on another carrier’s vessel to transport its cargo. Slot charters are common when a carrier wants to expand its network or service offerings to destinations where it may not have a direct presence or sufficient capacity. By chartering slots, the carrier gains access to additional routes and can offer its customers a broader range of shipping options. This arrangement allows carriers to leverage the resources and infrastructure of other carriers to meet customer demands and optimize their transportation services.
