Liner In/Free Out (LIFO)

Liner In/Free Out (LIFO) is a logistics term used to describe a freight shipping arrangement where the cost of loading goods onto the ship is included in the freight rate, while the cost of unloading is not. In a LIFO scenario, the responsibility for unloading the cargo rests with the consignee or the recipient of the goods. The shipping line or carrier is accountable for safely and efficiently loading the cargo onto the vessel at the port of origin. However, once the ship reaches the destination port, it is the responsibility of the consignee to bear the cost and arrange for the unloading of the goods. This arrangement allows carriers to offer competitive freight rates while placing the burden of unloading on the receiving party.
