Plimsoll Mark

A visual indicator found on the sides of vessels that signifies the safe loading depth for different seasons. It consists of a circle with a vertical line passing through it, accompanied by several small horizontal lines. Each horizontal line represents the maximum permissible draft, or depth, to which the vessel can be loaded during specific seasons. The number of horizontal lines corresponds to the maximum draft allowed in summer and winter conditions. This marking system helps prevent overloading, which can lead to instability, compromised safety, and potential accidents at sea. By adhering to the Plimsoll Mark, ship operators ensure that their vessels maintain proper buoyancy and stability, ensuring safe navigation and preventing risks associated with excessive loading.
