The Certificate of Free Sale (CFS) is a necessary certification for medical device manufacturers to conduct business in open markets. It serves as proof that the device is already available in the exporting country’s market. The CFS ensures the device’s safety for use in the destination country. For medical devices manufactured in the European Union, it is crucial that the CFS confirms the presence of CE marking. The manufacturer’s EC Rep, acting on their behalf, submits an application to a European Competent Authority to obtain the CFS.
