Chassis Split

A chassis split occurs when a container and its corresponding chassis are not located at the same place, which can happen for various logistical reasons. When a chassis split situation arises, the trucking company may charge a chassis split fee. This fee covers the additional costs incurred in transporting the chassis to the container’s location or vice versa. The need to move the chassis separately to where the container is located adds extra steps and costs in the transport process, justifying the imposition of it. This fee aims to compensate for the additional labor, fuel, and time required to reunite the chassis with the container before it can be transported to its final destination.
