 Voyage Charter

A Voyage Charter is a contractual agreement between a shipowner and a charterer, wherein the shipowner agrees to transport a specified quantity of cargo from one or more specified ports to another designated port or ports. The charterer pays remuneration, known as freight, to the shipowner for the service rendered. The freight can be calculated based on the quantity of cargo loaded, such as per ton or per unit, or it may be agreed upon as a lump sum amount. The Voyage Charter establishes the terms and conditions of the transportation, including loading and discharge locations, freight rates, laytime, demurrage, and other related provisions. It provides a framework for the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods by sea, enabling both shipowners and charterers to fulfill their respective roles in international trade.
