CDS (Customs Declaration Service)

The Customs Declaration Service (CDS) is a modern, digital system introduced by the UK government to handle customs declarations more efficiently. As the successor to the older CHIEF system (Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight), CDS is designed to improve the speed, accuracy, and accessibility of customs processing in the UK. This system is pivotal in managing the declarations needed for goods entering or leaving the UK, aligning with international standards and accommodating the post-Brexit changes in trade regulations. CDS supports importers, exporters, and freight forwarders by providing a streamlined electronic means of submitting customs information, thereby reducing paperwork and increasing processing efficiencies. It is a key part of the government’s strategy to facilitate trade and ensure compliance with both national and international trade laws.
