Revenue ton

“Revenue ton” refers to the number of metric tonnes for which freight charges are calculated per ton. It is a unit of measurement used in the transportation and logistics industry to determine the pricing structure for shipping goods. The revenue ton takes into account the weight or volume of the cargo, whichever is higher, and serves as the basis for calculating freight rates. This means that even if the actual weight of the cargo is less than a ton, the freight charges are determined based on the revenue ton, providing a fair and standardized approach to pricing. The revenue ton concept ensures that carriers are compensated appropriately for the space occupied or the weight being transported, reflecting the cost and capacity utilization involved in the shipment process.
