Codabar

Codabar is a discrete, self-checking barcode symbology that was first developed in 1972. It is a variable-length barcode that can encode up to 16 different characters, including the digits 0-9 and six additional symbols: dash (-), dollar ($), colon (:), slash (/), dot (.), and plus (+). This mix of numeric and limited special characters makes Codabar particularly suited for various numeric-oriented applications.

Codabar is often used in environments that require easy and straightforward implementation, as it does not require a checksum (though one may be optionally included for additional error checking). This feature simplifies the barcode generation process and reduces the complexity of barcode scanners needed for decoding.
