Combined Transport Bill of Lading

A combined transport bill of lading is a document that acts as proof of contract between an expediter and a transporter. It provides a combined transport by at least two different modes of transportation and gives information about goods being transported in large containers by sea and land. In the case of multimodal combined transport, this document is issued by the maritime company and covers the whole transit operation, in other words, from pre to post carriage of goods. The document evidences a contract between the cargo owner and the carrier, whereby the carrier agrees to carry or procure carriage of the goods, as principal, from one place to another, even if the journey involves a series of stages of sea carriage and other means of carriage such as road, rail or air carriage.
