ISF (Importer Security Filing)

An Importer Security Filing (ISF), also known as a “10+2”, is a mandatory filing required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for shipments entering the United States. Importer Security Filing provides critical import information and details as goods move between locations to enhance security and facilitate risk assessment. Importers must submit the ISF accurately and on time to avoid penalties, including fines of up to $5,000. The ISF consists of data elements from the importer and carrier and must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the ocean shipment’s departure for the United States. The ISF enables CBP to assess security risks, target high-risk shipments, and ensure the safe and secure movement of goods while facilitating legitimate trade.
