FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit)

FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit) is a standardized unit of measurement in the shipping industry used to quantify the volume and capacity of cargo containers. It represents the equivalent of one 40-foot shipping container. The term is commonly employed to assess shipping rates, vessel capacities, and storage capacities at ports and terminals. For instance, when a company states that they move 500 FEU from Shanghai to Los Angeles annually, it means they transport the equivalent of 500 40-foot containers. Additionally, it is worth noting that two 20-foot containers can also be considered equivalent to one FEU, providing flexibility in container configurations and optimizing cargo transport based on container availability and requirements.
