Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC)

A Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) is a type of ocean carrier that arranges and manages the transportation of goods using containers, but does not own or operate its own vessels. Instead, an NVOCC contracts with ocean carriers to secure space on their vessels. The NVOCC issues its own House Bill of Lading or similar documentation, which serves as a contract of carriage and evidence of receipt of the goods. NVOCCs consolidate smaller shipments from multiple shippers into larger containers, providing cost-effective transportation solutions. They handle documentation, booking, and logistics services, ensuring smooth operations throughout the shipping process while offering flexibility and competitive rates to their customers.
