A waypoint is a reference point in physical space used for purposes of navigation, typically defined by its latitude and longitude. In modern navigation:

GPS Navigation: Waypoints are used in the route planning of both maritime and aerial navigation to mark intermediate points along a travel route.
Navigation Software: Modern navigation systems and software allow navigators to input waypoints, helping to define and follow a planned course over oceans or through airways.
