Express Bill of Lading

An express bill of lading is a specific type of bill of lading (B/L) that does not require the issuance of original bills of lading (OBL). Instead, the carrier is obligated to deliver the goods directly to the named consignee without issuing physical OBLs. Express B/Ls are considered non-negotiable and do not serve as a document of title for the goods. The transfer of title is typically documented separately in the sales contract. Unlike traditional B/Ls, an express B/L allows for the automatic release of freight at the final destination without the need for printing and presenting physical OBLs. This type of bill of lading is commonly used when immediate payment for the goods is not required before delivery, and the charges are settled on account.
